Notes:
- If anyone ever asks you how bad a localization can get just screenshot this page.
- And yes, I know I'm inconsistent by usually sticking to the localization's names yet using Cain instead of Kane. It started as just habit because I played Final Conflict in japanese first, but now is also a bit spiteful, like, 99% of the character was erased by the localization, should I really care how they wrote the name? Especially when the name makes it very obvious he's supposed to be a brother??? This translation choice ends up kinda symbolic really.
- Adam is added to the team right as the conversation with Chaos ends, despite the lack of "Adam joined the team message", likely because it would break the flow of the action here. However, there are remains of an alternate script for this place where the message would display, along with some cutscene involving Cain, Darksol, and multiple other Adam-like robots.
- Chaos speaks entirely in katakana at first, something pretty common for robotic or monstrous characters meant to sound bizarre. There's no good equivalent in english, so I tried to lay into how broken the lines sound as well. After defeat, a few hiragana begin to pop up, making the lines a bit more natural, and breaking my heart, the only kanji is the one for "I" (私). Very much feels like someone "getting themselves back", a tad too late.
- Also, a kinda weird detail. Chaos' name is given as "ke-i-o-su", while the "Chaos" in "Chaos Breaker" is given as "ka-o-su". Both are apparently valid ways to write the word, but I find it funny that both get used in the same scene. I suppose it helps telling them apart?
- While working on this I went through my tumblr and found my reaction upon watching a JP gameplay of this scene for the first time (i was playing the GBA version back then and got curious to compare things). I think it's worth preserving it here.

While the remake seems to have made up the time travel stuff and the robot army, the gist of the dialogue is pretty much the same. Adam’s introduction in english is one text box. One text box. One lil text box. I, know retro games were hard and there were limitations of text limit and japanese text always had the advantage of fitting more in less characters. but [bolded] bro. there HAD to be a better way to go around that. there has to.'](originstory.png)
