Prologue

	Those of pure heart were known as the Light, and those of evil heart were known as the Darkness.	...Light fought Darkness for control of the world.
	The embodiment of Darkness, Dark Dragon, brought incessant destruction and slaughter.	Dark Dragon led the evil hordes of Darkness.
	After a grand battle against the gods, Dark Dragon was trapped.	The Ancients fought back with the Powers of Light.
	And sealed at the bottom of the earth by the gods' hands.	Dark Dragon was defeated and cast into another dimension.
	"I will definitely return. In a thousand years..."	The Lord of Darkness vowed to return in 1,000 years.
	And thus, time went on, and the legend was forgotten.	Time passed, and Dark Dragon was forgotten by all.
	People enjoyed a peace they thought would last forever.	Ten centuries of peace ruled the land of Rune.
	But the quiet days were shattered.	Until the kingdom of Runefaust brought war and fear to Rune.
	The eastern empire of Runefaust suddenly began an invasion.	Hordes of evil creatures ravaged every land.
	People cowered in fear.	Here and there, strongholds of Good still held out...
	They yearned for salvation, for someone to oppose that power...	...awaiting a Hero who could wield the Powers of Light!

なんとしても　悪しき力を　ふっかつさせてはなりません。。。	We cannot let that evil power resurrect, no matter what...	Hmmm. One thousand years have passed since they vanquished Dark Dragon.
我々も　それをそしするため　ふういんを　まもるためのちすじを　はぐくんできました	To prevent that, we have raised a bloodline to protect the seal.	And this book says Dark Dragon threatened to return right about now.
それが　あなたたちなのです	That is your bloodline.	I bet anything that Dark Dragon is behind the evil hordes of Runefaust!
わー　これから　どうなるんだろう？　えーと　えーと。。。	Wow! What happens next? Let's see, let's see...	I need to tell someone about this! But who would listen to a kid like me?

それじゃ　はやく　よんで！　はやく　はやくーっ！	Then let's go read already! C'mon, c'mon!!	You need to get going! Evil spreads farther across Rune with every passing day.

Notes:

• The "your" in "That is your bloodline" is specifically plural, it's just hard to convey that in english without sounding unnatural or trying to guess how many people it is referring to. Still, it's a very early hint at the fact Max is not the only hero.
• As you can see, Simone doesn't ever get a name in the JP version.
• Also, you might be wondering about two english lines here (the "Maybe you'll listen. Nobody else will" ones). All I can give is TCRF's explanation on it. They claim those lines get skipped most of the time by holding any button to scroll the text. I tried to wait the whole text out and still did something that skipped them anyway. It's some nonsense I don't fully understand. For a long time it was thought that they were unused lines, but I did manage to see them once. I can only assume I did the precise timing TCRF speaks of to skip directly to these lines, but I never managed it a second time, and I'm glad people at TCRF did some more testing cause otherwise I'd think I hallucinated or something.
  I do have a guess on what might have happened. In the JP version, she just skips to noticing you when you hold a button right from the title screen, so that you may get to the save menu faster. The obscure english lines are equivalent to that. However, that's still 3 or 4 dialog boxes before the menu. Perhaps the english version wanted to make this even more convienient and skip directly to her final line, which is what ends up happening in that version. But maybe that was decided later on, and some wonky coding left remains of the original skip routine, that then broke even further by not showing up most of the time... Yeah, it's not a full theory, someone whould have to look at the exact code and why it behaves like that, but I'm guessing this is the reason it happened to begin with. It's not often I even see the reasons on the localization's choices.
